The Lucky Ones - Jennifer Thorpe (vocal), Reg Schwager (guitar), John Loach (trumpet)
Celebrated for her repertoire of great standards combined with jazz reinventions of Canadian folk tunes, Red has created the perfect balance between jazz sophistication and her northern roots.
Influenced by such diverse jazz vocalists as Carmen MacRae, Betty Carter, Nancy Wilson, Tony Bennett, Annie Ross and Connie Boswell, she also includes Canadian singer-songwriter folk icons Willie P. Bennett, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell.
Spontaneous, gutsy and unafraid to take musical chances, Red delights audiences with her banter, quick wit and off the cuff improvisations. Equally at home singing in Portuguese, French, Spanish and English, her warmth, sensuality and playfulness are hallmarks of her sound. More than a vocalist, she owes much of her dynamo onstage personality to performers like Pearl Bailey and Carol Burnett. When Red takes the stage she is in command, fully aware of her redheaded 1940s bombshell appeal.
